Living Green should become the motto of the present and the future generations. It has become necessary for all of us to teach our children about ecologically friendly methods so that they learn to respect the environment they are born into. The love and respect for nature has to be introduced at childhood and reinforced. The fact that nature should be cherished and respected is something that is all but lost to many in recent times. Today’s children are tomorrows leaders; therefore the values we help them obtain now will ultimately blossom into a better and brighter future. Growing up in surroundings that are choked with unhealthy toxins and devoid of natures beauty will have a dampening effect of their natural tendency to create, love and respect while growing up “green” will inspire a better and happier way of life. When we grow up as children of the Earth we become the Stewards of the Earth.
Today there is a desire to develop novel technologies which would facilitate living green. Research is being done to find out new and creative forms of green energy. The oil and coal reserves of our planet are quickly running out due to over industrialization and wasteful use of resources. If this over-consumption continues at the same rate, then eventually our fossil fuel reserves will become depleted. As a result, conservation of our resources and, more importantly, finding alternative means of collecting energy are goals we must keep focused on. Solar energy and tidal energy are some potential sources of energy available. They need to be explored and grown in an efficient way to get the most benefit and output. Both solar and tidal energy are green sources of energy (solar being powered by the sun and tidal by the moon) . They are both environmentally friendly too. As a part of living green, people should be encouraged to use solar power for house lighting. Recently, technology has been created to power vehicles on solar electric energy. Though, this is still in the early stages, it would be a great alternative to gasoline used for running the cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Staying Aware of the current goings-on regarding green living should be seen more in the news so people can be educated on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. There should be made available educational programs on how to make better use of the natural resources we have at our disposal. The effects of wasteful misuse of these resources should be discussed as to inform the people in detail and clarity. Humans in general have a tendency to waste the things we take for granted, such as fresh water. This has helped lead to a scarcity of potable water in many parts of the world. Steps should be taken to prevent this waste and help encourage people to make more responsible decisions. Also, people tend to waste electricity. Needlessly switching on appliances and lights is a common happening in most homes due to the apparent abundance and relatively low cost of this power source. If even a single additional light bulb is turned on in every household, just imagine the amount energy being wasted. This type of wasteful behavior should be avoided wherever possible.
Yes, we are a wasteful society. Most of the time we’re aware of our waste of energy but sometimes not. A quick way for saving energy is unplugging appliances.
